Subject: Misrepresentation of the Iranian People’s Struggle – February 26th Article on MEK
Dear Porter and Irena,
I am writing to express my deep discontent and outrage regarding the Fox News article published on February 26th, titled “Over 150 Lawmakers Lend Support to Resistance Movement Inside Iran as Regime’s Proxies Fall.” The article misleadingly amplifies the role of the so-called “resistance movement,” namely the Mujahedin-e-Khalq (MEK), a group that has neither the legitimacy nor the support of the Iranian people—inside or outside of Iran.
Your article fails to acknowledge that MEK, once designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and other nations, was complicit in bringing the Islamic Republic to power and later betrayed the Iranian people by fighting against them during the Iran-Iraq war. The group’s long history of violence, including the killing of Americans and Canadians, as well as its cult-like structure, hiring of child soldiers, makes it a fundamentally flawed alternative for Iran’s future. A recent study confirms that MEK has negligible support within Iran, yet your article falsely presents them as a credible opposition force.
More egregiously, your article disregards the real voices of the Iranian people. The historic Woman, Life, Freedom movement, which began in 2022 and has led to over 600 deaths and the imprisonment of 20,000 protesters, is entirely separate from MEK. The group does not represent this movement, nor does it even chant Woman, Life, Freedom, further proving its complete disconnect from the true aspirations of Iranians who seek democracy, human rights, and an end to all oppressive regimes—including the Islamic Republic and any of its potential replacements like MEK. Many Iranians see MEK as nothing more than a repackaged version of the current regime (Islamic Republic 2.0), and promoting them as a viable alternative is a grave misrepresentation of reality.
Fox News has a responsibility to provide balanced, well-researched journalism. Instead of amplifying a discredited group, I urge you to highlight the genuine voices of Iranians who are fighting for true democracy—those who have risked and lost their lives for a future free of both the Islamic Republic and organizations like MEK. I hope you will take this into consideration and ensure that future reporting reflects the truth rather than advancing the agenda of a fringe group with a violent past.
Sincerely,
