A women-led movement which was ignited by the killing of a young woman, named Jina (Mahsa) Amini, who died shortly after being arrested and beaten by Iran’s “morality” police. Jina (Mahsa) was targeted simply for violating the country’s oppressive dress code law, which forces women to wear hijab regardless of their personal choice or religious beliefs. The tragedy of her death became a symbol for all Iranians to unite against government oppression and injustice.
